About Therapy

Doing the Work

In therapy, we talk about doing the work. What does this actually mean, though?

According to Corrine Sanchez, the Tewa people believe that all of their relatives are present whenever a person embarks on therapy. When a person can see and break the patterns learned in childhood, it helps heal the past generational patterns, heals the present, and changes patterns for their children and future generations. Doing the work is our birthright.

I have worked with many people who have experienced childhood traumas, either physical, emotional, or both, and witness how powerful it is to heal these patterns and how that affects what kind of parent they are to their children. It is one of the most powerful and beautiful things I get to experience with my clients.

Working on ourselves is some of the most fulfilling and challenging work we can do. Not everyone chooses or can do the work. It takes an opportunity, strength, and a desire to change, and be uncomfortable through growth.

Prepare to laugh, cry, and be transformed.

What’s your Birthright?

Each of us has different challenges that lead us to learn what we need to know.

For some of us, we feel not good enough to learn how to love ourselves. For others, we feel unloved and become angry and question what life is all about to find out what is important to us and how to let in the love of others. For others still, we feel abandoned, and we learn how to have confidence and feel safe in relationships. Maybe we feel we have to over-achieve to be loved, and nothing we do ever allows us to feel that way. So we learn to slow down and know we are doing enough.

Each person brings in different issues to unlocking their full potential. What’s yours?

About Sowelu: So Well You!

Sowelu is an ancient Norse symbol that represents the power of the sun and wholeness. It represents the light in each of us and our ability and desire to be whole and healthy. At Sowelu, we work from the belief that you are the expert in your life. You set the direction of what you want to heal or where you want to go, even if figuring out those answers for yourself. Sometimes, we just need someone to believe in us enough to let ourselves really know/voice and manifest our desires or dreams.

I, as the therapist, am a guide or someone to walk with you on this journey. I help you trust your instincts and help you with the tools and skills to reach that goal of wholeness. At times, my job is to tell difficult truths. At times, I hold space for you to share some of the deepest darkest pain you have experienced and maybe never told your closest people. At times, I just get to reflect on how amazing you are. That’s why I feel lucky to have one of the most fulfilling jobs on the planet. I love watching the transformation of people trusting themselves, healing, and transforming their lives.

About Integrated Therapeutic Approach

In an integrated approach, we address the wholeness of the mind/body/soul or spirit. Symptoms such as fatigue, worry, stress, tension, fear, and depression are all felt in the body and show up physically. So, we address the whole system of each person.

What does an integrated approach look like? We will discuss your relationship with your body and feel embodied. We will identify how emotions and boundaries feel or show up in the body and communicate them. We discuss how to regulate your nervous system, trust your body’s wisdom, and heal some of those physical symptoms in the body. We use body-based techniques such as EMDR.

This does not mean that all our work is bodywork. We absolutely will talk, laugh, and discuss your history, relationships, hopes, dreams, and worries exactly as you would in traditional talk therapy.

About Me

I was born in Colorado and grew up in the mountains.

I have always been connected to the healing power of nature and the outdoors.

I experienced trauma, and the work I did to heal myself was so eye-opening that it sparked my passion for normalizing our natural responses to trauma and stress and our amazing power to heal and transform.

I completed my undergrad at Naropa University because of the emphasis on the mind/body connection. I grew in every way there, and it informs how I meet clients to this day. I earned my graduate degree at Regis and picked it because of the continued connection to the spiritual realm.

Beginning therapy can be one of the most exciting, scary, and nerve-wracking things to do.

I know how difficult it can be to take that next step and reach out. I love connecting with people during a free 20-minute consultation to see if I would be a good fit and offering referrals when I am not. I am happy to answer any questions about therapy or mental health.
